Board of Education Responsibilities

As a Board, your responsibilities include:
  • Hiring the superintendent
  • Evaluating the Superintendent – by law, the Board must evaluate the Superintendent at least once during a 12-month period. Newly hired Superintendents must be evaluated twice during the first year of employment with the district
  • Adopting and reviewing board policy

The successful search process is collaborative in nature with communication as the key element. The NASB Search Service will maintain contact with the Board of Education to ensure a steady flow of information and forward momentum.

The search begins with a comprehensive review of the needs and expectations of the school district and community. Working closely with the Board of Education, a leadership profile will be developed. This will help to clearly identify the needs of the district as well as the qualifications and background of the ideal candidate.

Although the NASB Search Service has proven protocols, procedures, and resources, each search is unique to the district needs.
