Enrollment in Kindergarten



Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, a child must reach the age of five on or before July 31st of the calendar year to be enroll in kindergarten. The school district will enroll a child who will reach the age of five between August 1st and October 15th of the year of enrollment if the parent or guardian requests such enrollment and provides an affidavit stating:


(a) The child attended kindergarten in another jurisdiction in the current school year; or

(b) The family anticipates relocating to another jurisdiction that would allow admission within the current year; or

(c) The child has demonstrated through recognized assessment procedures approved by the board that he or she is capable of performing the work of kindergarten.


The recognized assessment procedures approved by the board are the Developmental Test of Kindergarten Readiness Second Edition (DTKR-II) and Kindergarten Readiness Test (KRT).


The board delegates to the elementary principal responsibility for determining whether the conditions of this policy have been met.
